Flights from Delhi and the Vietnam E-Visa
Flight time and fares
Non-stop flights link Delhi with Hanoi (about 4 hours 15 to 30 minutes) and Ho Chi Minh City (about 5 hours 15 to 45 minutes). Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, Air India and IndiGo have all flown non-stop to Hanoi, though schedules change by season. Vietnam Airlines' website has shown round-trip economy fares from about INR 30,000 – INR 33,000 for November and February dates; expect more over Christmas, New Year and school holidays. Vietnam is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India.
Consider an open-jaw ticket: fly into Hanoi and home from Ho Chi Minh City, or the other way round, so you never backtrack.
Vietnam e-visa for Indians
Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam, and most use the e-visa. Apply only on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn; the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi warns that other websites are not valid.
- Fee: USD 25 for single entry (approx. INR 2,400) or USD 50 for multiple entry (approx. INR 4,750).
- Validity: up to 90 days.
- Processing: often around three working days, longer in busy periods, so apply two to three weeks before you fly.
- Passport: at least six months' validity from your arrival date, plus a photo and a scan of the data page.
The Phu Quoc visa-free rule
Phu Quoc island allows foreigners, including Indians, to stay up to 30 days without a visa if they fly in directly from abroad and stay on the island. In April 2026, though, the Embassy of India in Hanoi advised Indians to get a proper Vietnam visa even for Phu Quoc-only trips, in case a medical emergency or flight disruption forces a trip to the mainland. We suggest following that advice.
Dewan Holidays helps with visitor-visa documentation and the application; the final decision is always made by Vietnam's immigration authorities. This is general travel information, not legal or immigration advice. See our Vietnam visa assistance page for help.
7-Day Vietnam Itinerary, Days 1–3: Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay

Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi
Check in and rest, then walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter in the evening. A water puppet show makes an easy first-night outing, especially with children.
Day 2: Ninh Binh day trip
Drive about two hours south to Ninh Binh for a rowing-boat ride through the caves and rice fields of Trang An. It is a full day, so keep the evening free.
Day 3: Ha Long Bay overnight cruise
The transfer from Hanoi takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Most overnight boats include a cave visit and kayaking or a bamboo-boat ride. Ask for vegetarian or Jain meals when you book, so the kitchen can plan for it.
Days 4–7: Da Nang, Ba Na Hills and Hoi An

Day 4: Back to Hanoi, fly to Da Nang
Overnight cruises usually end around midday. Drive back towards Hanoi for an evening flight to Da Nang (about 1 hour 20 minutes). One-way fares range from about 770,000 to 2,680,000 dong (approx. INR 2,800 – INR 9,900), so book early.
Day 5: Ba Na Hills and Marble Mountains
Spend the day at Sun World Ba Na Hills for the long cable car and the Golden Bridge held up by two giant stone hands. The non-resident adult ticket is listed at 1,000,000 dong (approx. INR 3,700). Arrive early on a weekday to avoid the worst queues, and stop at the Marble Mountains (40,000 dong, about INR 150) on the way back.
Day 6: Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son

See the ruins of My Son Sanctuary in the morning (150,000 dong, approx. INR 550), then head to Hoi An. The Ancient Town ticket for international visitors is 120,000 dong (approx. INR 440). Stay until dark, when the lanterns come on along the river.
Day 7: Fly home
Fly from Da Nang to Delhi with a connection through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
Prefer the south? Add Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc
Central Vietnam can stay rainy until January. For a December or early January holiday, consider three nights in Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, then fly south to Ho Chi Minh City and the beaches of Phu Quoc.

Best Time to Visit and Tips for Indian Travellers
Best time to visit Vietnam, by region
- North (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay): October to April. December to February is cool in Hanoi, roughly 10–20°C, so pack a light jacket. Ha Long Bay is calmest from November to March.
- Central (Da Nang, Hoi An): February to May. Typhoon risk runs from September to November, peaking in October, and Hoi An often floods in October and November.
- South (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc): November to April is the dry season; Phu Quoc is at its best from November to March.
For the north-to-central route, February to April works best. For a Christmas break, pair the north with the south instead.
Vegetarian food in Vietnam
The key word is chay (vegetarian). Fish sauce goes into almost everything. Pho chay is the vegetable-broth noodle soup. Search "quan chay" or "com chay" on Google Maps, and use the Indian restaurants in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, including pure-vegetarian ones, when you want dal-chawal.
Money, SIM cards and getting around
At about 271 dong to INR 1, a 100,000-dong note is worth roughly INR 370. Carry some cash for street stalls, buy a local SIM or eSIM on arrival, and use the Grab app for cars and bikes in Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam Trip FAQs
How much does a 7-day Vietnam trip from Delhi cost?

Yes, non-stop flights run from Delhi to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. They take about 4.5 and 5.5 hours respectively.
Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes, Indians need a visa for mainland Vietnam, usually an e-visa applied for online. It costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry. Phu Quoc allows 30 days visa-free for direct arrivals, but India's embassy in Hanoi recommends a visa anyway.
How many days are enough for Vietnam?

February to April suits the classic north-to-central route. November to March is good for the north and south, while central Vietnam is often wet from September to January.
Are Vietnam family tour packages a good idea with kids?
